Description

The New Diplo Vase is the upgraded version of the Diplo model, Julie Mallet Studio's bestseller for nearly two years! Larger and wider, it’s still 3D printed using PLA — a bioplastic made from corn or wheat starch combined with organic and mineral residues.

Its shape is inspired by the Diploria labyrintiformis, also known as brain coral. It also references Matisse’s seaweed drawings, reflecting his love for the French Riviera.

The corn or wheat starch used to make the PLA filaments comes from upcycled waste from existing crops in the food industry.

The vase now consists of two parts:

  1. Exterior in PLA: a bioplastic based on corn and wheat starch. Not waterproof.
The white outer shell is made from PLA infused with recycled scallop shells sourced from restaurants in Normandy.

The colored base is made from PLA tinted either with organic or mineral residues, or pigments:

  • Brown: Coffee grounds

  • Beige: Recycled mussel shells

  • Terracotta: Crushed bricks

  • Black: Crushed slate

  • Green, Yellow, and Orange: Pigments

  1. Interior in PETG: plastic (recycled mineral water bottles). Waterproof.
Important: Only the interior part can hold water! The previous Diplo vase relied on 40% bio-sourced epoxy resin for waterproofing, which produced too much waste and toxicity during application. That’s why we switched to 3D printing a fully waterproof insert in recyclable PETG.

Designed and made in Marseille, France.
